Engaging Students in a Google Apps Classroom
Presentation Site
Teaching online or in a blended learning environment can be an overwhelming organizational challenge. We will demonstrate how we used Google Apps in an online Secondary Math II class to engage our students in a paperless environment and to create a classroom folder structure that managed assignments, assessments, and other collaborative interactions.
We will also discuss many of the lessons we learned (including mistakes to avoid) during the planning, set-up, and engagement phases.

Choosing Apps for Optimal Learning
Presentation Site
Increased use of touch screen devices (e.g., iPads) in educational technology has resulted in hundreds of available apps for the classroom. However, apps tagged as 'educational' in the marketplace are not created equally; some apps fail to make use of interactions or feedback conducive to learning. This seminar will provide attendees with methods for evaluating educational apps to support constructive learning in the classroom, focusing on finding interactions that promote deep cognitive processes. Feel free to bring your own device(s) and explore app demos along with us.
